Barton Academy by James Gallier

Barton Academy was built in 1939 by James Gallier in Mobile, Alabama. An interesting fact about this building is it was the very first public school in the entire state. The design of the building is interesting since it is made from brick which has been stuccoed and then scorched. I think this gives an interesting texture to the look of the building. It also has an interesting dome which is held up by 28 ionic columns. Sadly, only the under the dome remains in the original condition from when it was first built. It is interesting to note that it looks like over half of the building is just made of windows which is interesting how the foundation and walls could hold up everything.
