Erich Mendelsohn (1887-1953) was a Jewish German architect famous mainly for his expressionist architecture. German expressionism as an aesthetic movement tried to express—through shapes that broke with tradition—the inner feelings of the artist, and as an aesthetic figure in the time of modernism his streamlined designs fit with the creation of a new society not bound by tradition.
