After Eames success in creating the church in Arkansas, the Meyers wanted Eames to design their home in Missouri. Eames took on the project in 1936 and completed it in 1938. This house is very large, especially for the time period in which it was constructed. The house was 7,000 square feet and had 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a tennis court and greenhouse. The house had custom work throughout which included stained glass, murals, and custom designs on the bricks. The custom bricks included sculptures built onto the bricks and even the first notes to the Meyers favorite symphony. Although the house is very large it doesn’t seem to have that style, it has the style of a contemporary conserved house on the outside. But on the inside of the house no custom work was left out and the elaborate theme you would expect from a 7,000 square foot home in the 1930’s is showcased. The style of this house is something I am fond of but it seems that the contemporary conserved design is rare because you don’t see it much.
