The Sheikh Zayed Bridge is located in the United Arab Emirates. It is named after the country’s former president who was also an architect for the country. It is an incredible 842 meters long as it was built to connect the mainland to the island of Abu Dhabi. When viewing it the parts that catch my eye most are the three massive arches of differing shapes. They are said the represent the sand dunes of the landscape in that area. The road decks are suspended from these arches. It is four lanes on each side of the road. The bridge opened in 2010 and was designed by architect Zaha Hadid with the intent to spur on architectural growth in Abu Dhabi. My favorite thing about this design of Hadid’s is how the wave-like design draws your eye horizontally so that the whole structure is quickly viewed.
