The New York State Capital is located in Albany, New York and was completed in 1899. If it was built today, it would have cost $711 million dollars, making it the most expensive government building of all time. It was even considered a national landmark in 1979. This building was also built in the classical Richardsonian Romantiquse style. A lot of people think that Richardson tried to mock the Hotel de Ville (city hall) in Paris, France. They were building a dome and a tower and when they were in the building process, they realized that the building was shifting down hill. To stop this they had to add a staircase for support. They ended up adding more support to the structure and it stood tall after that.
