Government Street Presbyterian Church by James Gallier

The Government Street Presbyterian Church was built in 1837 by James Gallier for the church’s congregation in Mobile, Alabama. James Gallier decided to use a brick with a stucco finish. It is interesting to note that Gallier uses brick with stucco in a few other projects. This matches with his other building in Mobile, Alabama being the Barton Academy. The building was originally built with a steeple, but it fell in 1852 lasting only 15 years. The building looks similar to me to the ancient Greek Acropolis after the steeple fell. The church is still being used by over 480 members.
