Located near the heart of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, the NC state capitol building sits as a reminder of America’s colonial past. It was completed in 1840, and modeled after the Greek Revival style of architecture. To this day, it remains one of the most preserved major civic building inspired by Grecian architecture. Not only is it useful as a functioning state capital, but it also serves as a historical museum. By stepping into this building, you are transported into the 19th century. It is the home to a famous portrait of George Washington painted by artist Thomas Sully, which adds to the capitol’s charm. The building has positively influenced me by exposing me to United States history as well as providing me with a beautiful atmosphere.
